Things to Do Near Cathedral Park

Cathedral Park sits in the very heart of Chișinău, so the easiest way to explore the city's highlights is on foot. Below is a practical walking loop that starts at the park and links the most visited landmarks nearby — all within a 15-minute stroll.

1. Cathedral Park & the Nativity Cathedral

Begin in the park surrounding the Nativity Cathedral (Catedrala Nașterii Domnului), built in 1830–1836 in Neo-Classical style. The cathedral and its 1997-rebuilt bell tower are the city’s most photographed landmark.

2. Great National Assembly Square

Just steps from the cathedral, this is Chișinău’s central square and the venue for national celebrations. It offers open space, monuments and a clear view back to the cathedral dome.

3. The Triumphal Arch

A two-minute walk brings you to the white Triumphal Arch (1840), built to commemorate the Russo-Turkish war and to house a 6.4-ton bell. It frames one end of the square.

4. Ștefan cel Mare Boulevard

Head north about five minutes to the main boulevard, lined with cafés, shops and historic buildings. It is the city’s primary pedestrian-friendly thoroughfare.

5. Central Pedestrian Zone & Museums

Continue to the pedestrian street and the National Museum cluster (around 8–10 minutes on foot). This is where most city tours pause for museums and dining.

Practical tips

Wear comfortable shoes, carry water in summer, and remember the cathedral has separate visiting hours and a modest dress code inside. The whole loop is flat and stroller- and wheelchair-friendly.
